0 Read the disclaimer. This is experimental software, you use it on your own risk.

1 Install your webcam (if you have not already done so) by following the vendor's instructions. Test it. Popular test tools for Windows boxes are AMCap and VideoCap (Microsoft Corporation).

2 Download the zip file and extract its contents to a folder on your drive:

If you don't want to start FTR_BY_WLP.exe by double-clicking it in Windows Explorer, add a desktop shortcut. The most convenient way to create a desktop shortcut is: holding down the right mouse button, drag FTR_BY_WLP.exe from Windows Explorer to the Windows desktop, release the right mouse button and choose "Create shortcut here" from the menu.

You don't need to register the helpfile ftrbywlp08.chm to your machine, if FTR_BY_WLP.exe and ftrbywlp08.chm are in the same folder (recommended).

3 Register filters for the cvcam module (a part of OpenCV used by FTR_BY_WLP): Execute registerall.bat (e.g. double-click it in Windows Explorer). Filter registration is a must. If you try to do without, you'll just get the following when you click "Start Tracking" (plus an unhandled exception if you try to ignore the error message):

You better register the filters!

Note: cvcam depends on DirectShow. DirectShow should be still available on Windows Vista, but FTR_BY_WLP is tested only on Windows XP.

4 If some DLL is missing: Don't panic! Use Dependency Walker http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dependency_walker to find out what's missing. Instructions how to get and install missing MS Windows components are available at http://www.microsoft.com/en/us/default.aspx
